ADELAIDE.Im emigrating there summertime 2008.Where are the better parts to live there, and ,as important, where?

should one not live,if given the choice.

It depends on your budget a lot of the low skilled jobs are in the north. And don't believe people who say don't live in Elizabeth I've lived in Elizabeth for 19 years and never had a problem. just because the media says it's dangerous everyone believes them. even tho a lot of the problems don't happen anywhere near Elizabeth.

omg. why adelaide? god... im sorry if you had no choice in the matter.

Adelaide is a fantasic place. Cheap living, low (no unemployment, great weather (hot and dry in summer, cool in winter) and heaps of things to do.
Depends on where you are working but nothing is too far in Adelaide. Golden Grove is 30 minutes from Adelaide, great for your family. In the foothills. Depends what you want. Close to city or beach is expensive but depends on the money you've got. I have a 2000m2 block at salisbury heights (foot hills) with 350m2 home with all trimmings (ie stained timber etc) and am 25 minutes from city for about A$600k.
Adelaide is the cheapest cost of living in Australia, apart from Tasmania that has a higher unemployment rate (its an island)

I would prefer not to live in Elizabeth, Pennington, Christies Downs, Hackham., If i had heaps of money, Mawson Lakes is the new place to be, (used to be Golden Grove top of the list)Eastern suburbs are posh too.Depends how 'snobby' you are.The South Coast is opening up as a desirable place to live. and isnt too far away from Adelaide. You had better hurry up to catch our summertime. , this is its last month!!!

my friend emigrated to adelaide 3 years ago, we went to visit her last year and it is great - ignore the other person, not everyone wants big city loads of shops etc. it is like england 30 years ago, really laid back, she lives in the barossa valley (wine region - jacobs creek) but she is a country girl. The only advice i would say is to avoid Elizabeth Area, cheap housing but not that nice in the evening -have a lot of breakins etc - good shopping mall there though.
Glen Elg area is lovely , fab beach if you prefer beach to country side

she stayed in a holiday caravan park for 3 months before deciding where to buy/rent a place, she paid only about $200 a week for a 3 bed caravan and then just drove around looking at different areas and houses, also visiting them at night ! big difference from the day time to nigt. if you like small town and beach they stayed in Gawler for a while about 40 mns out of Adelaide.

Cheaper here to live (eating out shopping etc) than other places in oz we found.

Good luck xxxxxx

Depends how much money you have. Personally, I say do not live up north of the city eg. salisbury, elizabeth etc.. or south like christies beach etc.. If you have the money, live either in actual Adelaide city or the Unley area, Goodwood, Millswood, Norwood, Mitcham, North Adelaide area etc... but you need a bit of money to live around here but it's not dodgy!!! It also depends on how snobby you want to be haha and whereabouts you'll be working etc.

Have to agree with ice man, nothing wrong with Elizabeth, lots of work, good shopping centers.

I'm here already contimplating similar situation.
Having had 16 or so consecutive annual trips to this city I feel qualified to comment, certainly for me anyway.

For me I am drawn to places like Seacliffe Park, Brighton, Semaphore, Norlunga for close coastal proximity and leisure during hot summer months.

Or Willunga, Maclaren Vale, Mitcham, Burnside... for the more inland retreat.

Your requirements and needs probablydiffer from mine , so it's up to you.
