When is the best time to buy airplane tickets?

I have found that buying them months ahead of time is not always the best option... any tips on getting the best deals?

Always buy on a Wednesday when fares are cheapest.
Never buy on a Saturday when fares are the highest.
21 days advanced is usually the best deal . I always see advertised "last minute" jaw dropping deals and then when you try to book it, the price is almost tripled.

when you have the money

there was a news special about this a few months ago. there is a website called Farecast, (you might have to search for it), but they give forecasts of ticket prices because they do fluctuate. it is definitely worth researching.

ATLEAST TWO WEEKS AHEAD OF TIME. LIKE A MONTH AHEAD IS USUALLY A GOOD IDEA

Check prices 4 weeks one day out, then at 3 weeks one day, then at 2 weeks one day, from your date of departure. Seats and discounted prices are freed from reservations that were never acted upon at midnight by the computers so you can check very late to see what new inventory is available for you to jump on.

Check into flights to local or smaller airports too (vs major hubs) when possible since they have better fares. For example, fly into Tampa vs Orlando and you'll save some decent coin on flights and car rentals too.

At least 30 days out gets me the best price. The closer in ususlly higher the price.Check with like cheap tickets. If you call the company say American they quote much higher prices. Just compare.
