Im terrified of airplanes, what should i do!?

In April I'm going to Florida.
And i live in M.A.
I haven't gone on a air plain since i was about 4.
I'm terrified of airplanes.
and i don't know what to do.
is there somthing i can do to help me or somthing?

I will be picking the best Answer.

You can go to a doctor and they will give you a pill to take before you get on the plane. You can also buy Dramamine at the drug store, it makes you sleepy so you will sleep through the flight.

I am also terrified, and I have a prescription to take when I fly. The flight from your home to Florida isn't that far, so you just have to hang in there for a couple hours.

Bring an Ipod, or a DVD and some magazines, and make sure whoever has the window seat closes the window shade because you probably won't like looking out the window. I've also talked to flight attendants, who have been most helpful. If they know you're nervous, they will usually take the time to chat with you about how safe flying is - because it really is very safe.

Good luck - focus on your trip and how much fun you'll have, not your fear. The more you fly - the easier it will get.

What my brother does is puts his hoodie on back to front with the hood up so he cant see and plays music on his mp3, have a go! Or you could get on the plane as quick as possible and try and fall asleep!

hope i could help!

Don't drink because if you crash you can't get away.

I guess do some research on the statistics of a plane actually crashing and you will see it will be like 1 in a million chance or a lot less. Hope this helps :)

A Dr may give you something to help. It is also possible to get short flights to help people with the very common fear of flying. Fear of crashing would be more logical.
You could research travel by bus or train.
Breaking the journey might make it more of a holiday experience.
In the end you need to compare your level of fear to your need or desire to get to Florida.

Get a perscription for Zanax and www.askcaptainlim.com

Just realize that if the plane crashes your problems are over and if the plane lands safely your problems are over. Either way, your problems are over

You could take a fear of flying course, think it might be expensive though. Also after a while you shouldn't feel so scared, don't avoid it.

a lot of doctors will prescribe a tranquilizer so you can sleep. otherwise take the train or bus

Loves to ride in airplanes - especially when we hit turbulence and the plane bounces like a bronco and does a wingover, dropping like a stone . . . . It's better than any ride in an amusement park, especially when people start to scream and cry and stuff goes flying out of the overhead lockers . . . .

The problem is that most flights are too damned smooth and the only difficulty is finding a comfortable position to fall asleep in . . . The stewardess' aren't as pretty as they used to be, either . . . Ever since they made it illegal for the airlines to discriminate for age or looks, they've hired so many plain looking broads that it's a shame . . .

I've flown many dozens of times and still haven't crashed and burned so, I guess that flying is okay . . . . Enjoy it !

On my first international flight move from Japan to NYC via Seol on connecting, I was terrifying also because I was about age ten and I don't remember taking airplane from Japan to Miyazaki.

When I was going on first domestic flight on December 18th from LaGuardia to Cleveland Hopkins, I was afraid after I heard news about Jet using less fuel because of expensive fuel, but now not afraid anymore when I took it.

Best thing is to not to look at window if you're afraid.
Another thing, you could read books you like.
If I were you, I would sleep. But, I am not you and when I sleep, I can't wake up. Not even if somebody tap me awake.

Hey Stella,

I fly about 200+ segments a year and have flown 4i flights YTD. First, you are much better flying than driving as far as safety. I would see if you could meet the Pilot and FO prior to leaving the gate. If on UAL ch ( you can listen to the ATC and Pilots so you know what is going on. Ex; You hear UAL flt 203 descend to flight level 1200 turn right heading 270 and intercept runway 27 right. Then you will feel the plane slow down rapidly and nose down while turning right. Flaps will extend more and the gear will drop. You will also probably hear the two chimes in the cabin. The more you know how well everything is planned, the less fear you will have.

Good day

its ok have u seen how much security there is at the airport? airplanes are very safe and the pilot is an expert so he knows what hes doing. To get ur mind off it on the plane i would reccommend sleep , it is hard to worry while your asleep
