The capital Algiers is quite a beautiful city on the Meditereanian. Great beaches. Although the beaches in the developed areas, unless for resorts or hotels are most likely not uni-sex. Public beaches are eaith for Women and boys 10 and under. Then the male beach for only men. But any beach in Algeria will not be nude. It also is mostly in Moorish and French arceitecture, a hundred year old, well perserved building there isnt uncommon.
The people are all Musim. There are small Jewish and Christian communities in places. All Muslims are Sunni. Non are Sufi as you will find in Morroco or Sudan.
You may visit the Hoggar Mountains. Were beautiful landscape. You can go hiking there also. There are many oasis that dot the Saharah.
Dress_-_ Key when visiting any African or Asian city.
You must dress pespectfully. Shirt must show no clevage and sleeves should be to the elbow. Wear pants all the times, capris are acceptable. If you want to visit a mosque you will need to wear loose clothing. Cover all accept your face, hands and feet. You can buy a veil for 2$ there.
What to buy_-_EVERYTHING. Its a a good price and nice quality. Leather is good, rugs and book stores live the streets. You will find most signes are bilanguale. With French and Arabic. Some are even in Berber.
You must visit the Roman ruins in Timgad. The great landscapes to visit are M'Zab Valley and Tassili n'Ajjer.
Best of all it is extreamly safe, maybe safer then Japan. You never know you may just love it. Please be safe and check ahead with everything, always know were you are. Just for peace of mind travell with people and never at night. Nothing like the movie Hostel is going to happen. Once the people see you, if your white they will speak to you in french or english.
