I'm going to Sevilla, Spain next week, is there anything particularly interesting I should see there?

If you're going to be there over the weekend, you should plan a trip down to the beach. All of Spain will be there in the summer. I'd recommend El Puerto de Santa Maria or Sanlucar de Barramedia.

In Sevilla proper, check out the Cathedral, the Barrio de Santa Cruz, and the Museo de Bellas Artes (great works by Murillo and Zurbaran).

I went and saw the Palace and the Cathedral which was interesting but it is just generally interesting to walk around in the Old City. The thing I remember the most thought was eating outside at a nice little restaurant in a piazza and drinking a huge jug of Sangria.

Neat place to observe the combienation of Moorish and Spainish influence. Just watch out for the gypsies.

I was in Sevilla back in April and it was great. Of course there are the main sites, such as the cathedral - make sure you climbe the Giralda tower for a great view of the city.

A walk down Calle Sierpes is interesting, as it is the shopping district. No cars, just pedestrians and lots of fun window shopping. You can find virtually anything there.

Make sure to go see the Alcazar it's gorgeous and it has a beautiful, lush garden to wander and enjoy. Right around the corner is lovely Barrio Santa cruz.

Make your way down to the Guadalquivir river to the Torre de Oro, and then walk across the bridge to the Triana area of Seville. You can dine on the waterfront on Calle Betis. You'll have a great view of the city. If you continue to wander the Triana area, you'll find a more locals only feel to the bars and cafes. People will break out in spontaenous singing. Bar Santa Ana and La Canera are good places to stop by and mingle with the locals.

Also, if you like flamenco, you should go to Los Gallos for a great show. It's a small intimate setting to see some wonderful dancing and singing. I would recommend that you buy your tickets ($27 euros) a few days before and get to the show early or on time so that you can get good seats in front.

You can also go to a small but nice museum called El Museo de las Bellas Artes. They have some wonderful pieces there and it's free.

Since you'll be in Andalucia, have some gazpacho. It's very refreshing on a hot summer day.

From Sevilla, you can also take some day trips out to Jerez, Ronda, or Cadiz. All trips are about 1 hour via a comfortable bus.

Right now there is a special exposition of ancient documents & manuscripts in the ARCHIVO DE INDIAS (Next to the Cathedral) Some are signed by Christopher Columbus! ...Worth a visit.
Than there are the roman ruins of Italica...near Santiponce on the northwestern outskirts of Seville about a 20 min. drive (depends on the traffic).

And it is true...Just to walk around the town is a pleasure...The Plaza de Espa帽a and the Parque de Mar铆a Luisa across from it are wonderful (In the park be sure to visit the Glorieta de Gustavo Adolfo Becquer...the statue is magnificent)

The Barrio de Santa Cruz with its narrow streets is a joy to wander through (If you like flamenco go to "Los Gallos" in the Plaza de Santa Cruz! Great Music! 2 shows nitely).

And don't forget to stop in any small tavern or sidewalk caf茅 and have a few tapas with a cool drink (It'll be hot as the dickens next week!!!) (If you don't speak spanish...go in and see what tapas are under the showcase ...and just point at the ones you like and say "Una de esta por favor"....
(There is a small caf茅 across from the church just off Calle Sierpes in the center of town, afraid I've forgotten the name but the tapas were delicious and the waiter...who seems to have been there forever is really great! (Hope he hasn't retired!) On the other corner is a little souvenir shop that has lots of neat fans (typical souvenir) Don't buy the plastic ones...get wooden ones hand painted (not plain) And don't pay too much for them not over 12 euros. .. (They start out at about 4,50 euros)
If you want to go shopping go to EL CORTE INGLES department store...there is one in the center of town in Plaza del Duque.
