The area around Lake Vinuela is it best to stay by beach or up by Competa for weather in Jan & Feb?

The weather around la Vi帽uela and the weather down on the coast will be about the same....So it doesn't rally matter where you choose to stay... We are having a drought, so you may have plenty of sun even though it's wintertime...That will depend on your luck. The temperature in winter in that area is usually around 17潞 to 20潞 on a nice sunny day.
The rural hotel at La Vi帽uela is very nice. other than that it is very rural "countryside"area. I have friends who own a place in Alcauc铆n, a few minutes down the road from the lake, and I was there last weekend!
while you are there go on to Zafarraya, Alhama de Granada (a great little spa town) and C贸mpeta itself (some of the best Malaga wine is produced there, a good place to get some).
There is a nice shopping center just outside of Velez-M谩laga (El Ingenio)
And the beaches near V茅lez and Torrox are also nice, plus you have the Grottos at Nerja to visit also...

It is better it may rain now
