What to do in Sevilla?

Im going to Andalicia for a holiday next week and fancy visiting Sevilla for a day. (Im, not sure why, Ive just never been) Can anyone suggest things to do, nice places to eat etc.? Thanks xx

Walk around. The whole town is beautiful.

I'd make sure you look at the cathedral, but you can't really miss it. Other than that I wouldn't overthink it, just go where your feet take you.

The main shopping area is the square between Plazas Nueva, Magdalena, Encarnacion and San Francisco, with Calle Sierpes at its heart. For more touristy gear (flamenco aprons, T-shirts, bullfighting souvenirs) Barrio Santa Cruz has a wealth of places; for more individual shops, Barrio San Vincente and the Alameda; while for ceramics, Triana is where the beautiful azulejos (ceramic tiles) which adorn many Sevillano bars, hotels, churches and private houses are made

Right - some things you MUST see:

You can't miss the cathedral which was built from 1401鈥?519 after the Reconquista on the former site of the city's mosque. It is the largest of all medieval and Gothic cathedrals, in terms of both area and volume. The interior, with the longest nave in Spain, is lavishly decorated, with a large quantity of gold evident. The Cathedral reused some columns and elements from the mosque, and most famously the Giralda, originally a minaret, was converted into a bell tower. Avoid beggars like the plague - many of them are known pickpockets.

The Cathedral is topped with a statue, known locally as La Giraldilla, representing Faith. The Giralda is the city's most famous symbol.

The Alc谩zar facing the cathedral is the city's old Moorish Palace; construction was begun in 1181, continued for over 500 years, mainly in Mud茅jar style, but also in Renaissance. Its gardens are a blend of Moorish Andalusian and Christian traditions.

The Torre del Oro was built by the Almohad dynasty as watchtower and defensive barrier on the river. A chain was strung through the water from the base of the tower to prevent boats from traveling into the river port.

The Town Hall, built in the 16th century in Plateresque Style by Diego de Ria帽o. The Fa莽ade to Plaza Nueva was built in the 19th century in Neoclassical style.

The Parque Maria Luisa was built for the 1929 Exposici贸n Ibero-Americana World's Fair, and remains landscaped with attractive monuments and museums.

Above all, you MUST try the local desserts - polvorones and mantecados from the town of Estepa, a sort of shortcake made with almonds, sugar and lard; Pesti帽os, a honey-coated sweet fritter; Roscos fritos, deep-fried sugar-coated ring doughnuts; magdalenas or fairy cakes; yemas de San Leandro, made by nuns in the city's convents, providing the convents with a source of revenue and Tortas de aceite, a thin sugar-coated cake made with olive oil.

Enjoy the stay. I'm quite jealous!

I just got back from Sevilla. I think it is the most beautiful city in Spain (slightly biased as was born there) but have not been back since I was 3. Is fantastic. Go to the Plaza de Espana, the Cathedral (Giralda), the Castle (Alcazar) (all fairly close together). There is a tourist bus but walking is better. There are some little streets too which are tiny lanes with cute little shops and bars. The bars on the windows used to have women sitting behind them luring men in to the bar! Go down to the river too, also beautiful. you have an abundance of places to eat that are good. Have fun and try and spend more than a day there!

Take the open-topped bus tour. It is interesting, informative and good value for money. You can leave and rejoin the tour whenever you wish and as often as you wish, and you see most of the interesting sights on the tour.

Sevilla is a lovely city to tour and enjoy.

I know this sounds bad but when i was in Sevilla i was craving something from home and spent many nights at Flaherty's which is located in the center of town right next to the cathedral. Great nachos and english breakfasts!
