NIF or Tajeta de Residenca?

Can any one please explain what a NIF or Taj Red. is I would like too regester my Vodafone Espa帽a sim and I can olny do it if I have the NIF or Taj Red.

You will need an NIF for lots of things in Spain, if you are planning to stay there for a while. Take your passport to a gestor and they will sort this for you quite cheaply.

An NIF is just a register of foreign people in the country.

The Tajeta Redidencia is becoming a Spanish citizen. You will need to be employed by a Spanish registered company, it does affect your rights as an English citizen with tax implications etc, so you would need to weigh up the benefits and disadvantages to you as an individual first.

The NIF is the ID number you have as resident and would be not only in your ID , it's used in your Driving license , Social security card, etc...is a Taxes number

NIF is 'numero de identification fiscal' or tax identification number.
It is an individuals personal ID number. 'Tarjeta de residencia' is a resident's photo ID card.

If you have no NIF, you give your passport number.

Sometimes you may find that you have difficulties but this is becoming rarer.

I know that Telefonica allows NIF or passport number when requesting services on the internet, (well... as of a few days ago).

Welcome to Spain!

You will have a NIF number if you are Spanish if you aren't then you can apply for a NIE number they are basically the same though!

Your NIE and your Residents card (a DNI for non-Spanish residents of Spain)are however two different things although they use the same number. Your NIE number as stated above is your tax number. It is needed if you buy property over here or live and work here. It is a way of the Spanish tax man knowing who you are! Technically if you are an EU citizen it is all you need to live in Spain.

However..... as the Spanish are required to carry ID at all times if you live here it is often easier to go a step further and get a residents card. You will need a permanent address and to register at your local town hall. The residents card makes life easier as you can prove you live here - although as I said before technically you NIE is enough. The residents card means when applying for services you are less likely to need supporting documents to show you live here as the card does that for you.

If you live outside of Spain and just want to register your phone to you then advise Vodafone of this fact and ask them if they will accept your passport number in place of your NIE.

If you go to a Vodafone shop with your passport, they should be able to register it for you as they will take a copy of the paspsort for the records. Movistar certainly do it instore that way. Tarjeta Red, is the network card or sim, thats the translation and is nothing to do with Residencia or NIE
