Have you ever heard about the bayonne festival? |
Have you ever heard about the bayonne festival? The Bayonne Festival or 鈥淔ete de Bayonne鈥?is a riotous five-day celebration that takes place each summer. The event officially gets underway with a colourful 鈥?not to mention loud 鈥?鈥渕ascaleta鈥?fireworks display on the first night at 2200 in front of the Town Hall. It symbolically re-enacts the awakening of old King Leon who reigns over the festivities. Festival goers (known locally as 鈥渇estayres鈥? can expect a great carnival atmosphere including live music, street theatre, splendid food and traditional Bayonne hospitality. The partying continues late into the night in the town鈥檚 various bars and restaurants that all enter into the spirit of the festival by holding parties of their own. The present form of the Bayonne Festival dates back to 1932 when some of the town鈥檚 men returned from Spain鈥檚 Pamplona festival and wanted to recreate something of that incredible atmosphere with an event of their own This Basque festival has been taking place in Bayonne every year since 1932.
