Could those of you who either live in or have extensive experience of Alpharetta, Georgia tell me about it?

Thanks for any help you can give.

It is very suburban and very sprawling. The downtown area is very small. Life is a little more quiet than in the inner suburbs of Atlanta. There are lots of shops and restaurants spread out all over the city, but just a few in the downtown area. A few small parks are left. Lots of development is still happening in the area, too. The town square is always beautifully decorated for Christmas. The downtown area is often decorated for other holidays, too -- such as with hay bales, indian corn, and pumpkins for halloween. In the downtown area, there's an annual event called Taste of Alpharetta. A lot of restaurants have booths and sell samples of their specialties. On the surface streets, traffic is a bit of a problem on Windward Parkway and North Point Parkway during rush hour, but the rest of the time it isn't too bad.

I don't know if this helps, I used to be a directory assistance operator and would come in contact with several people from alpharetta and they all seemed friendly :)

yes

At one time it was a major farm community; in the last 18 years many companies who were once downtown Atlanta have moved to Alpharetta, Siemens was the first major company out here; then General Motors added some offices, MCI had some offices here, Comcast has a major sales office where I work. Also it has become a major retail hub with Northpoint Mall and quite a few good places to eat. With all this new growth also the cost of living has skyrocketed. I bought my house here in 1990 for $185K and its now valued at over $400k. There are some major golf courses out here, many athletes also have homes here.

very boring suburban white area. Nice houses but nothing to do
