Why do hambergers in New Zealand have beets?

It adds colour to the burger which makes it more appealing to the eye so they can sell more. also it's a cheap filling and most people like it but if you don''t like it just say No Beetroot please when putting in your order. Also beetroot is one of the more healthy ingredients so they can say less fat or more nutritious

Perhaps it's because the traditional New Zealand salad with lettuce and tomato, also contained beets. Just be glad the burger doesn't have condensed milk mayo on it! lol

tee hee, it's as New Zealand as Pavlova mate:-). It isn't in EVERY burger though, don't exaggerate now:-)

oh 'vivi' whats wrong with pj wearing people who make their own condense milk mayo lol! seriously though havent done the pj thang yet but the condense milk mayo.... yyyyuuuummmm lol......
However back to the question I think having beet in the hamburgers, I pretty much agree with everyone on here, I dont like them myself however I do think the picture looks appealing it does add to the health benefits and just say no beets if you dont want them....

I think you must be talking about what in NZ is known as beetroot.
It's extremely tasty btw.
It is added as a matter of course, just as the bun is. It wouldn't be a burger without it.
Other "beet" grown in NZ is fodder beet, silver beet and sugar beet, none of which are added to burgers.
