I want to move out to San Diego CA from Austin TX what is a reasonable amount of money needed to survive?

"survive" i mean semi-comfortably for a 23 year old college student.

About half what it costs to live in San Diego.

San Diego is mad expensive. at least $4000/month.

DONT MOVE TO SAN DIEGO!!!!!! I'm a southern person as well (from alabama) and it SUCKS HERE!!!

A good one bedroom apartment is going to be over $1200 a month. You could find some roommates but you are still going to be paying a good chunk of change. My one bedroom apartment is $1385/month. I HATE IT HERE IN SAN DIEGO!!!!!!!

Oh and everything else here is freakin expensive.

move to LOS ANGELES sure it might cost alot. but there's alot of celebrities near hollywood. and hollywood is only lke 1 hour away from l.a. but it's your decision

As much as you can save up. I was born and raised in San Diego, and trust me, it is NOT cheap. Go to something like "Yahoo Real Estate" and search apartments or houses to get an idea of how much at least that part will cost you.

Move to Fredericksburg and save your $$$$$

Go to Craigslist!

Hmm..I live in Los Angeles..William the person who posted up there doesn't know what the heck he's talking about. Anyways, i go to san diego a lot and i've looked to find my own place....It's going to be roughly $3000 a month..and that's going to be a very tight budget..to live off of...but i guess it all depends, are you living alone? roommate? do you have a specific location that you'll be moving into?

San Diego is one of the most expensive counties in Calif. to live in. I live here, I know. I don't think you can rent an apartment for less than $1800 for a studio. Food, gas, insurance all cost more here. I would think that you would have to have an income of at least $3500 a month just to survive.

I been to both places, and Diego is really expensive, can't beat the weather, but that's about it.

I can't give you a figure because I don't know your stats.
Do you mean survive for a year or more? What are your habits? Do you like to eat out? Will you be living on campus?

Try an extended visit first, if you can.

I spend 4 months in San Diego last summer on business I didn't have to worry about rent my boss covered the hotel but I got a copy of the bell. 875 a week.My rented car was 300 a week. My food bill was low but It was just me. I talked to a few of my native co workers and clients were telling me about the cost of living down there. A cheap 1 room apt was $1300 a month and up. This shocked me to the core. I'm from Oregon where there is no sales tax. or city tax. My 3 bedroom house in the country with at least 5 akers of land is $800 a month. 75 bucks less then what was paid for a weeks rent in San Diego. My suggestion would be to find a roommate since your a collage student.
Other then all that San Diego is beautiful place. The People I met were good people made quite a few friends.
