Austin to New York and back?

I'm thinking of going from Austin to New York by car. This would be during the long Christmas holiday, which is 11 days starting from saturday morning on the 22nd. Any suggestions on which cities to stop? I've never been to the east coast so I wouldn't mind stopping in nice places to take pictures. :)

Watch out...the idea of a road trip sounds enchanting...but I drove from texas to canada a couple summers ago and it turned into a nightmare because there is not much in between here and there! I would suggest getting a book such as Weird USA or another book that has fun places to stop on road trips...good luck!

Get on the airplane. It only costs you $350 round trip. You can't park in NY city anyway. It's very expensive to park there.

Be careful because there are alot of winter storms going thru right now. As a Texan myself, most of us don't know how to drive in those elements!! Have fun and be careful!!

I have flown so much that I really like the idea of driving. When you fly who miss seeing a lot of nice country! Can you imagine all the hassle of airport security? Drive and see the country!

Since it is during winter time that you are going I would suggest you check out the weather forecast and then take the route that would cause you the least trouble because of inclement weather conditions.

I have driven from Guatemala to Texas a couple of times and I really enjoyed looking at nature. Small towns along the way have a lot to offer because you can always find something to do that does not cost a lot of money. Eat at a local restaurant instead of a national chain. Get that good old home cooking you cannot get in New York City. I think you will need more time than just 11 days to really enjoy your vacation.

If you are going to look around once you get to NYC I would suggest putting your car in a parking garage or someplace inexpensive because parking in NYC is expensive. Take the train the rest of the way and indeed see what it is like to see some interesting notes in the big city versus the small towns you saw along the way!

Have a good trip!
