UT Austin guarnteed acceptance if your in the top 10%? |
Ive researched my *** off. All i can find is kinda old links, and if i can recall corectly, around jan/feb of this year, some law passed in texas about how a texas public university dosent have to accept you if your in the top 10%, does anyone know if this passed? I also heard that (more specifically) that the school of mcCombs (business school of UTAustin) dosent even look at your % rating. By law, if you are in the top 10% of your high school graduating class, you will get into any Texas public university. Getting into the UT McCombs school of business is another thing. That's their decision to make. As far as I know, the law is still active. Another thing I've also heard is that they only have certain spots to fill up with top 10%. In other words, when they meet that limit, the remaining top 10% that applied will be considered regularly with other applicants. It's the only way they can keep it semi-fair for everyone. When it comes to the business school, they will always take the top people first in order from the 1st percents to the 2nd percents and so on. The law states that any who finishes in their classes top 10% gets automatic admission into any public university in Texas. Although you are guaranteed admissions, you are not guaranteed admissions into the major of your choice. As to McCombs, I remember reading something that said that around 95% of the incoming class from like 2005 or 2006 finished in the top 10%. McCombs is definitely the hardest school to get into at UT. If your set on UT, you can also go with a business minor. UT has one of the nations best career placement services, so you could still get a business related job with a little help. im also pretty sure you are still automatically accepted if in the top ten percent of your graduating class. but yes, mccombs is a very prestigious college and is the hardest to get into here at UT. try calling the UT freshmen admissions office if you are unsure about the top ten law. Can't resist...Better school in College Station..Gig'um!! Still very hard to get into. My son there. |
