What to do in Austin, Texas for New Years Eve?

Give me some ideas for things to do in Austin, Texas for New Years Eve!

Here is what I suggest...

Have dinner somewhere fun and festive. You could try Vivo...a great mexican food restaurant with a lively atmosphere and great margharitas and specialty drinks. Also, every lady who dines there gets a beautiful long-stemmed rose as they leave. From there you would have to take a short cab ride downtown. If you would rather dine downtown in style...try The Belmont. They have good food and a terrific roof deck with lounge chairs where you can drink champagne and look out over downtown as it starts to get hoppin'.

After dinner, head down to 6th street for total rowdiness...head to Red River or 4th for slightly more refined rowdiness. Here you will have your pick of great live music venues to pick from. Ringing in the New Year to live music is definitely the Austin experience.

For both great dinner ideas and shows, pick up an Austin Chronicle(weekly magazine outside of most shops). This will tell you what is going on and where to be for a great New Year's Eve.

Have a great time! Hope this helps.

6th street is the place to be for bars and clubs. Guadalupe downtown (the drag) is good for coffeshops alternative record stores and a more college type setting (it's close to UT).

Austin has tons of excellent restaraunts, music venues and so forth. You can't go wrong in that town!

come to san antonio on New Years Eve its the best

get drunk and scream like a redneck

Most people either go to parties or go downtown. Both are fun!! Make sure to take a cab wherever you go!! The cops are everywhere!!

Try www.austinchronicle.com or www.statesman.com for some ideas.
