I am moving to Austin Texas..how is the cost of living, jobs, etc?

Compares to other cities, Austin still is a cheap place to live. My sister built her 4 bedrooms house under $200.000 while I paid for my 2 bedrooms condo in MD for $250.000. I'm not sure the job market there depends on your profession. IT seems to be fine 'cause my sister works for the government and she makes good money and so does my niece who also just moved back from CA to Austin and got more house for her money compares to the house she had in CA. There is no income tax in Texas.

It's hip and trendy, yet in a vintage sort of way. It's high-tech and laid-back. Austin was selected as the #2 Best Big City in "Best Places to Live" by Money magazine in 2006, and the "Greenest City in America" by MSN.

Don't people ask these kinds of questions BEFORE they decide to move?

WHY?!?! Tex-***????? Poor baby!
LOL
Happy Holidays!

It is VERY expensive to live there. A wise idea may have been to look up jobs BEFORE you decided to move??

Depending on where you are moving from then that would be whether or not it's more expensive or less. Compared to some places in Texas it's more expensive, but worth it!! I would look for a job before you move unless you have enough money to live on. Jobs can be hard to find. Regardless, I love Austin!!! Good luck!

Like any city, if you spend time looking you might get lucky. I did: 2 bed 1 bath in Travis Heights for $700/mo plus electric.
