Raleigh, NC or Austin, TX???? |
My fiance and I are looking to move from Pittsburgh, PA to either Raliegh, NC or Austin, TX. Which is better for a couple in their mid-twenties? Austin really is a great city for people in their 20s. North Carolina seems like a better place to raise a child. I have never been to Pitt, so I can't say. I am partial to Austin but then again I live here. I have been all over the US but have not been to Raleigh so I can't compare the two. Im from college station, tx and i do say austin is great. Lots of poeple in the parks and plenty of green-friendly stuff. Its also very very lively to local music and home of the university of texas. raleigh is kind of like a smaller version of austin as far as things to do. both places have lots of live music, great museums/art, nice parks, sports teams (austin: university of texas; raleigh: college sports and nhl hockey). raleigh is in close proximity to durham and chapel hill, which have their own flavor and together make up the area of austin size-wise. in both, you can also be in the country within 30 minutes or so if you want to get away. traffic is a bit less in raleigh since it's smaller. also, north carolina has the beach to the east and the mountains to the west. weather will be milder year-round in austin; we get some winter in raleigh. if you both will have family back in pittsburgh, it will be easier to drive home from raleigh, but you might want to check airfares to both - or wherever family is - to get a feel for that expense. i think they are both great choices, and wish you both the best in your new adventure! Forget Raleigh, go to Austin. I moved from Atlanta, GA to Dallas, TX and I'm currently living in Durham, NC which is right next to Raleigh and I really dislike it here. From my experiences, a lot of the people in Raleigh/Durham are very closed minded and not too accepting of "outsiders" (in other words, people who are not from NC) But I'll be moving to Austin, TX in less than 2 months. YAY!!! DEFINITELY Austin......me and my husband are in our twenties and we LOVE austin, it has a little of everything, the party scene, the family life, great live music, beautiful lake for the summer, great parks and trails, its wonderful! austin is the best place for people period. |
