Is there anyway I can check out Austin/ san antonio without having a car?

I want to go to down to austin/ san atonio or maybe jsut one of those... if need be.my father refuses to comewith me. So if i go, i have to go alone, and i dont know how to drive. is it possible to get around and have a good trip, investigating austin and /or san antonio without having a drivers license? if i chose to move down there, (which is the reason for this tirp actually ) , I would get a drivers license I suppose. but for a week down there, can i get by?

if not, I gotta go somewhere where the weather is nice ( temperatures 50s/60s, i dont wnat to go where its hot cuase I"ll never be able to come back to winter if i do that. suggestions? advices? thanks

of both cities, austin is the better one with transportation. plenty of people get around just fine, but im sure it takes quite a bit of waiting on their part and knowing the schedules and lines. having lived in austin for 4 years, i know from experience the best way to get around is to have your own set of wheels. you could even get by with a vespa of the like, but it does like to rain and a car is the best to see everything. if you do move here, find a roommate with a car, that will make life a bit easier. people in austin are generally very friendly, but i would highly suggest bringing a friend along. a big city is not the place to get lost on your own, there are certainly parts of austin i would not want to be stuck in at night, by myself or even with others.

as for weather, are you only wanting the 50/60 range? then neither place is for you, the 50/60 thing is only a month in the spring and a month in the fall. weather likes to be hot in texas, 80+ for a lot of the year in those parts and mid-40s when we do have winter. if you dont want heat, those two cities may not be what you are looking for. they get warm, but there are so many things to do that will help you cool down.

best of luck!

I live in SA and I'm afraid to say that the transportation here is not very good. I'd skip SA and go to Austin. Austin is more transportation friendly.

Austin also has a lot of places for you to see. It's amazing. You can do some hiking and swimming in the river during the day and you can party like an animal at night on 6th street (only if you are over 21).

For transportation, Austin has these cute historic reproductions of trolley cars will take you to, from, and through downtown Austin, the Capitol Complex, University of Texas campus, and other parts of downtown. The 'Dillo is a great way to get to the downtown Austin things to do and see in this list 鈥?in air conditioned comfort. And best of all, the 'Dillos are free, the 'Dillos are free!

You might want to check out Travis Lake and University of Texas (the campus is HUGE!), also they have tours of the capitol. Also Barton Springs is the premiere swimming hole in town, this 900 plus foot pool in Zilker Park and lots of hiking trails.

I would go to Austin, much more interesting and you have a lot of things to do. SA is all about beer and Mexican food...you ain't miss much.
