River in austin, texas?

What is the river that runs in downtown austin, texas?

Colorado River. But like the other person said, the "river" in town is actually a series of dams that form artificial lakes. West of downtown, there's Lake Austin (where the city gets its water). Through downtown itself, there's Lady Bird Lake (formerly Town Lake). There's a nice hike-and-bike trail around LBL. Totally west of town, there's Lake Travis.

Colorado River. with three man-made (artificial) lakes wholly within the city limits: Lady Bird Lake, Lake Austin, and Lake Walter E. Long.

Actually, the river running through Austin is not the Colorado River, but, the Lower Colorado River. It is a completely different river from the Colorado(which is west of the Continental Divide). A lot of people make this mistake, because most Austinites refer to the river as the "Colorado" and leave out the "lower".

But, everything else others said is true. The river has been dammed in several places, so that it appears that there are three successive large lakes instead of one river. Before it was dammed, the Lower Colorado River was actually quite small!
