Going to Austin Tx for the wkd, anyone have any suggestions of where to go out that is trendy and upscale..not really into the type of bars on 6th street. Want a place with dancing and good even more expensive drinks etc. thanks!

Warehouse district for sure... there are a TON of new bars and all sorts of age groups, you might pay a little more but it's worth not having to deal with college kids running around everywhere.

SpeakEasy and Cuba Libre are some originals..they are both amazing.

Cedar Street is always nice except I saw a fire coming from around there last week so who knows if it's restored yet...

I think I know just the kind of places you are looking for. 6th Street bars get old the minute you turn 21! Luckily, there are many other bars to choose from in Austin.

My best recommendation would be to go to the warehouse district...it is several blocks from the bars on 6th, but, a world away in terms of atmosphere. The crowd is a bit older and more sophisticated. Some bars that have good cocktails/martinis and live music:
Ringside at Sullivan's(elegant steak and seafood restaurant with an attached swanky bar with jazz)
Saba
Malaga(primarily a wine bar)
Cuba Libre(sip fresh mojitos and dance to some sexy salsa)
Apple Bar(specializing in martinis)
Brown Bar(very upscale with comfy couches)
For a total L.A. swanky experience...check out The Belmont. It is very upscale and I believe that it has life music.

Hope this helps! Enjoy your Austin weekend!

The crowd and scene that you are looking for can be found at The Belmont.

You may also want to visit many of the new bars in the West 4th, 5th, and 6th districts (west of downtown) and on South Congress, as many of the bars/clubs in those areas will meet your criteria.

Good luck and have a fun weekend!

The Belmont is OK, I used to work there and that crowd is not THAT swanky. I still go there a decent amount of the time in just my T-Shirt, jeans, and flip-flops, so its not like theres a dress code or anything. Also dont count on much dance room there as there is no real dance floor. The Ringside at Sulivans is ok also but because its attached to Sulivans it doesnt stay open to late, like 12:00 on the weekend. Latespots that I know have dresscodes and are nice are Kenichi and its bar. The main problem here is sometimes has to many people. And Speakeasy, which is also very nice. My main problem there is drink price, which from your question is no object. It's nice and has a good dance area. Brownbar and Starbar mentioned above are pretty nice too, but sometimes have a weird crowd, I think I just hit them on off days too much.
