Who has the been music scene Austin or Portland?

I use to live in Portland and have heard good things about Austin, but never got the chance to check out the city and music while I was there.

How is the scene? Which one is better?

At first I thought Portland's scene was so-so, but after having traveled to several places it seem to be pretty good.

While the Austin music scene isn't as fresh as it once was, it still offers more opportunities and has more variety than the scene in Portland.

This shouldn't be considered a knock on Portland, as it is still a real cool place.
