Is Round Rock a desirable place to live?

I've noticed it's cheaper to rent there than Austin. What can you tell me about Round Rock? Would my commute into Austin be too much? Is it just too far? Any advice you have on cool, surrounding suburbs would be appreciated.

If you are moving to the Austin area, the do yourself a favor and actually move into Austin. Yes, the rent will be a little higher, but you don't get the Austin vibe in Round Rock. It's like living in any other generic suburb .

Lots of people like Round Rock...that's why traffic will suck for you should you work in Central or South Austin.

My sisters live in RR and Pflugerville, and they love it there.
Good luck

This might be a start.
Round Rock is located 17 miles north of Austin, and 10 miles south of Georgetown.
More on the site below:

Round Rock is really nothing more than a stretch of interstate surrounded by strip malls and national chain stores, so it is definitely not a desirable place to live.

The commute is painful and would frustrate you to no end - it is not the distance, it is the traffic.

If you are going to work in Austin, then you should live in Austin (preferably South for the culture and tradition). Other than that, you may want to check out cities/communities to the South/Southwest like Buda, Kyle, San Marcos, Dripping Springs, etc.

I hope this helps, and good luck on your move!

I'd think Kyle, Buda, or Bee Caves would be better than Round Rock. It depends on what you like, what you're looking for, and what's cool to you.

I would prefer Buda or Kyle though.
