I am an indian,having job oppurtunity in bahrain.how is bahrain as a country to stay and work?

For most Indians, Dubai is a better place to be, because there are more Indians there and less prejudice. Bahrain is a lovely little country, and far more open-minded than any other Gulf state, more liberal than Dubai in fact.

However, most Indians will find that they are considered second class there. Only if you have a very well paying job and a high position, will you be treated without prejudice. A lot of employers do treat their employees without much love .. overworking them, underpaying them, treating them unfairly .. but you will find this is the case in most places, not just Bahrain.

Actually Bahrain and India have an ancient connection .. our Indus valley civilisation and their Dilmun civilisation actually interacted and traded. Many Bahrainis speak Hindi (well sort of!). And if you speak Arabic, they appreciate it a lot. Most of them speak english of course.

Bahrainis are generally very nice people. But over the last few years there's been some resentment against expatriate workers, who they feel are taking jobs away from the locals, and there was also some violence and rioting related to that. But this was some years ago and I don't know if it is still that way now. I do know that there appears to be an increase in crime though.

Weather wise: very very hot esp June to September. Winter is extremely cold Dec Jan especially, you need to cover your ears up cos the wind is FREEZING.

Food is no problem, there are all sorts of Indian restaurants you'll find lots of Udipi restaurants (I recommend Charminar and Mysore Cafe!) and in fact food from every state, and also from many countries. You also will have no problem with getting indian spices etc.

There are quite a few clubs for bachelors, all located in the same area .. Kannada Sangha, Konkan Singers, Kerala Gujarati etc. are all represented. There are also temples .. I think a Krishna temple in Manama and two or three others around the island. There is also a gurudwara, and several churches too.

There are a few cinemas that show Indian films, and at the malls the mini cinemas show all the latest (the malls are more expensive).

Manama is the capital and that's where most of the Indian stuff is, i.e. cinemas, restaurants etc.

The health care is free at govt hospitals but if you want private docs there are a couple of Indian ones who are nice .. Dr Matthews in Manama near Sacred Heart Church, and Dr Mandeel in Manama near the Police Fort and Toyota Garage.

It's a nice place, but expect extremes of weather, and also expect to work very hard .. it's not like here in India where you can bunk work or take off cos grandmother died etc when you want to watch a cricket match or something.

Bahrain is nice. It's a fairly relaxed and open society- women can do and dress as they please, alcohol is widely available. There are a lot of opportunities for shopping and activities like movies and plenty of restaurants. The summers are very hot, but the winters are cool and comfortable. However, I know many people from Asia are treated poorly by their employers in the Middle East, so make very sure that you will be working for someone who treats you well.

well dont go to middle east n islamic countries.. go to any other damn country
