I'm going to Bahrain for work, will I be able to go to "markets" by myself or will I need a translator?

Will only be in country for a week.

I was there for 3 weeks from the UK back in 2001. Didn't need a translator to visit the souqs.

no, i dont think you do, most people who live in bahrain know how to speak a bit of english, so i think you will manage.
ive been and tried.

most of the people there speak English very well .
don't worry :)

English is the second language in Bahrain, which mean that you will find almost 98% of the people around you speak English good enough.
Regarding the market, I will ask you to take a look at the picture in this page first
http://banorama1.com/vb/showpost.php?p=3...
regardless of the Arabic language in the page you will find pictures for Bahrain markets and streets.
As you see everything is labeled by both Arabic and English.
Everything, malls, streets even the old traditional markets are label by both Arabic and English.
Restaurants menu, movie tickets. There is no way you will need to read something and you will not see it labeled by English.

dont worry!!! english is spoken everywhere!!
In the malls u will find everyone speaking english, in souq's probably they only know how to cheat u :P so be carreful with their prices!!
Old Arab men (shop owners) speak very well!! dont worry!!

No, not at all. English is widely spoken.

But if you are a woman.......take care as in the local souqs the salespeople are 99% men. ....even the ones that would sell you intimate female clothing :))

Try not to feel embarassed, as I felt very uncomfortable.
