Received a offer from Bahrain Govt. Can you tell me advantages and disadvantages in Govt.Job.? As i'm appointed as a Programmer in Bahrain. After completing bahrain shall i get IT jobs in INDIA MNCs. Is Gulf experience should be considered in Indian MNCs.

The good thing about IT is that the technology is fast paced and always on the move and if you're going to be behind - then you'll have a problem.

Continuing Education Programs (CPE) is very important and sad to say, government entities in the Gulf for the non-locals or expats are not keen on this issue. Dubai is a different story since this is mandatory and schedule of CEPs are normally laid down always in advance.

Multi National Companies and other private sectors within the IT industry segment is much better compared to government both in CEP, advancement, pay, bonus and other advancements.

However, tenure of job is much secured in Government as compared to private to my opinion.

My suggestion is try to complete your contract and have yourself registered in big recruitment agencies like Bayt, Nadia, Kershaw-Leonard, etc and concentrate in Dubai or Qatar. Opportunity is much wider compared to Bahrain.

I agree with the poster that MNCs as well as large private companies with sizable IT departments have better pay, bonus and training opportunities. The one advantage of a government job is tenure. I agree with the other poster that you should register with big recruitment agencies and consider Dubai, Qatar, or Abu Dhabi for opportunities. Bahrain has its living advantages like a slower paced yet somewhat open environment, but unless you get a really nice job lined up, consider those places for an IT position first.
