How can Dubai survive this...?

DUBAI (AFP) - A Bahraini minister has warned of an "Asian tsunami" because of the reliance of "lazy" Gulf Arabs on foreign labour to carry out even the simplest tasks, in an interview published on Sunday.

I also read that article Gulf News recently.

I'm a Dubaian, Emirati ... part of the GCC.

I agree with him. I also do believe that their are so many foreigners. I believe many of the expats that come from the Indian subcontinent should be replaced with nationals that are poor. It's better to be working and poor rather than plain poor and expecting money from the donations.

Strive for success ,,,,

Does Bahrain not have labourers there also? And how would a minister predict a tsunami? Wouldn't a weather man do that? lol.....

A minister in bahrain is also a weather man.
Being a weather man is a good job. You can stay in your job even if you are 50% or less right in your prediction.

I'm an American in Dubai and I have to agree even though I'm a foreignor, you guys did go a bit overboard with Indians and pakistanis. There is so many of them they could easily take over the gulf region and turn it into New India.

This will definately affect the economy if anything happens. The days of Idi Amin might come back :)

m n expat in bahrain...i agree wid the minister...wherevr u go, u c indian nd pakistani labourers sweating it out on the roads...constructin' buildings, cleaners in malls, evn shopkeepers in cold stores...they work everywhere...locals r difficult 2 find...this is the condition, nt only in bahrain, bt almost all arab countries...as a matter of fact, in qatar, the no. of expats living in the country is far greater than the no. of qataris living in their won country....!!!!

wow, this seems sad to me, that there are such conflicts about 'foreigners', 'rights to land and jobs', etc...Every country has this so-called-problem, I dont think there is any one answer. In Bahrain, do most nationals not get preferential treatment when applying for most jobs? I have read this is true, but also know not to believe everything I read! I just really want to know what is so wrong with having people admire your country so much that they want to live there, and contribute to your society. This world would be extremely BORING if we all just stuck in our own country. ahh, I hope there are other optimists out there like me who still think this world could be peaceful......

Arabian Gulf countries only reside to foreign labor, because we are lazy... But when I went to Syria (my mom is Syrian and my dad is Bahraini ;P) I didn't even see a single Indian or Pakistani worker... They were ALL Syrian, so I think it's only in the Arabian Gulf (sadly), not all Arab countries are like that.
