Garmisch-Partenkirchen (Bavaria): where to stay end January??

I shall be going to Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany (Bavaria) and would like to know your opinion: where you there? what is a nice place to stay? any information greatly appreciated.

My tip: drive through to Austria. Only 1-2 hour drive and you are SMACK DAB in the middle of 6-7 major ski areas. The skiing is MUCH better than Garmisch and depending on what you're looking for (family, party, top-notch skiing), the quality is simply MUCH better than in Garmisch. You can surely stop over in Garmisch for a night, but I wouldn't stay any longer.

Trust me on this one.

If you need any tips, mail me with a rough overview of budget and type of vacation.

In Grainau you can try the Nuss. In Oberammergau you can try the Boeld and in Eschlohe you can try Zur Bruecke. They may not be IN Garmisch, but not too far away.

My favorite site to book hotels is
http://www.hotel.de
It starts up in German first, but you can click the English option and their prices are really hard to beat.
Have fun in Germany!

I live in Munich and have been to Garmisch-Partenkirchen quite often (spent one year at an army base 10km from there). It is beautiful!!! Be aware, however, that end of January (winter sport season) it is crowded, so make sure to reserve a hotel.

If you're adventurous and not staying to long in one place, try couch surfing. It's free and a great way to meet locals (Germans are friendly in general... I am one, so I know :) ).
