Question for people who live in England- what is your true perception of Northern Ireland ??

Just let me know cos it is difficult to understand what you think

with all due respect to the people who live there, many of us don't want Northern Ireland and think it should be given back to the Republic of Ireland.

many (most?) Scottish, Welsh and and in recent times English people don't consider ourselves British anymore so I think the Protestants in Northern Ireland need to start embracing being Irish regardless of religion and stop calling themsleves 'British' otherwise it will get to the point where they are the only ones who consider themself British.

this is not a particular prejudice against Northern Ireland though , I am against the union (UK) in general , so am unlikely to have a different view with regard to NI, that's all.

if you were looking for more of an answer about NI as a place - I think it has probably improved immeasurably in recent times, one of Tony Blair's good achievements was peace in Northen Ireland. You hear about English lads going for weekends away in Belfast etc, and although I could be wrong I certainly dont think that would have happened at the height of the troubles.

I don't really have an opinion of Northern Ireland..I just love everybody! lol

A bunch of religious biggots are spoiling it for everyone else. They put their egos before peace. Makes me even more pessimistic about religion that I already was.

Aside from being green and having great countryside?

I don't have a "true perception". I have never been to Northern Ireland and my only knowledge is what I've read in the papers. I know enough to know that you can't believe everything you read and also that the papers only print the bad news.

If I take the newspapers as gospel, I think you're all nuts, arguing with your neighbours and killing someone that you grew up with just because they have different religious views to yourself. You shoudl get out and about a bit more and mix in the real world.

I certainly don't understand the "marching season" - more than 3,000 marches to commemorate key dates that happened several hundred year ago?? Sounds more like an excuse to perpetuate religious intolerance to me, but I guess I just "don't understand".

I have never been to Northern Ireland - believe you have beautiful countryside.
I suppose I think that like Scottish and Welsh people you do not like the English.
I know there are good and bad in everybody inc. the English.
Met a lovely couple in Cuba recently from Newry.
I suppose it is a case of putting the past history in the past and coming over to visit you all.
