Belfast???????????

Is it still a bad idea now for an English father and daughter to visit for a week long holiday?

We don't understand, pretend to understand, want to get involved in, or even have an opinion on the politics.

We just want to be tourists

Go to the tourist office its called Belfast Welcome Centre its in Donegal Place facing the front doors of the city hall and get a map of the city its a great place for a visit, I have lived in Belfast all my life and have seen one bomb go off and that was in the 1970s, go on the bus tours they do the Titanic quarter and all the Belfast murals. enjoy your self and if you want any more info please email me and I will be glad to help.

I was a tourist there in 1994. It was so much fun. I don't know the current state of affairs but everyone was so friendly to a group of American tourists. A beautiful part of Ireland not to be missed!

I don't think it has ever been "bad" , but it's a great place to visit. You can have a pint on the Falls Rd. then cross the interface and have a Ulster fry on the Shankhill. Your English accents wont give anything away, after all you could be 2nd generation Irish!

I live in N.Ireland and dont understand, pretend to understand or want to get involved in or even have an opinion on the politics!

What I can say is that you can travel freely all over Northern Ireland with an English accent and not encounter any bother.... So long as IF anyone asks your opinion you stick to the 'dont understand etc' line

I am from England, lived here for 13 years and never had any bother, in fact in the early days when people were still leaving the province I was considered a novelty!

Have a great time in Belfast - get in touch if you want a guided tour, be happy to oblige!

You'll be grand if you stick to the tourist areas and the center of Belfast or towns your going to visit. You'll have a great time!

Then just be tourists! Why does everything have to be so complicated? Go there, have a good time, take lots of pictures, and leave. That simple.

Have fun!

Why would it be a bad idea? I don't get it to be honest. It's never been a bad idea unless you were wearing some soldier uniform and were standing up the Falls pointing a rifle at someone.

We know you don't understand and you never will. Just go on holiday - do the Giants causeway, Bushmills Distillery, visit Derry, the Lakes out by Enniskillen. Walk the Roe Valley Country Park, Castlerock, travel the Antrim coast road, visit the Mournes etc etc - you'll meet loads of other English kindred spirits.

You'll be fine as long as you are tourists, it might be advisable to stay away from the republican areas of North and West Belfast though.
There is plenty to do these days in Belfast and the surrounding area There are busses which take you to all the historical areas such as the Falls and Shankhill and Stormont.

Go. We were in Belfast last month and met people from England who had no problems at all. We didn't understand the troubles either, but came away with a much better understanding. It was a good experience. Have fun!

i have being to belfast no promble in fact i thought people were quite nice to me
