Belfast??????????? |
Is it still a bad idea now for an English father and daughter to visit for a week long holiday? Go to the tourist office its called Belfast Welcome Centre its in Donegal Place facing the front doors of the city hall and get a map of the city its a great place for a visit, I have lived in Belfast all my life and have seen one bomb go off and that was in the 1970s, go on the bus tours they do the Titanic quarter and all the Belfast murals. enjoy your self and if you want any more info please email me and I will be glad to help. I was a tourist there in 1994. It was so much fun. I don't know the current state of affairs but everyone was so friendly to a group of American tourists. A beautiful part of Ireland not to be missed! I don't think it has ever been "bad" , but it's a great place to visit. You can have a pint on the Falls Rd. then cross the interface and have a Ulster fry on the Shankhill. Your English accents wont give anything away, after all you could be 2nd generation Irish! I live in N.Ireland and dont understand, pretend to understand or want to get involved in or even have an opinion on the politics! You'll be grand if you stick to the tourist areas and the center of Belfast or towns your going to visit. You'll have a great time! Then just be tourists! Why does everything have to be so complicated? Go there, have a good time, take lots of pictures, and leave. That simple. Why would it be a bad idea? I don't get it to be honest. It's never been a bad idea unless you were wearing some soldier uniform and were standing up the Falls pointing a rifle at someone. You'll be fine as long as you are tourists, it might be advisable to stay away from the republican areas of North and West Belfast though. Go. We were in Belfast last month and met people from England who had no problems at all. We didn't understand the troubles either, but came away with a much better understanding. It was a good experience. Have fun! i have being to belfast no promble in fact i thought people were quite nice to me |
