Going to Belfast for one day and night next tuesday, any suggestions of what to do/to see?

Only going for one day so want to do as much as possible and see the best of Belfast!!

Take a citysightseeing bus from Castle Junction which will take you to most of the toursity areas, there are alot of good bars/restaurants in the City Centre or as Cunny suggests the Italian near the University is called Villa Italia and is one of my favourite restaurants.

Spent 3 days there at Easter for a conference - our taxi driver from the airport gave us a guided tour of the former trouble spots. A very good Italian restaurant near the university - has a covered porch and there were queues on to the pavement .

Any taxi driver will give yyou a guided tour of the trouble spots-better this way than to walk around. The centre is good for shopping and round queen's university there are lots of lovely buildings, little cafes, restaurants etc. If you have children there is a zoo on the north side of the city.

It all depends why you are going and what your interests are. Flying into the City airport is better as you are a lot closer to the City Centre, the International airport is quite a way out from Belfast itself.

Depending where you live it may be cheaper to get the Fast Ferry from Stranraer to Belfast, Larne would be a bit to far out unless you had someone to pick you up there

There are reasonably priced cafes etc. and a number of shopping centres if you are that way inclined, plus some City Tours.

Cultra museum on the outskirts - u can take the train - takes about 15 minutes to get there. Wonderful transport museum and folk history park. It's massive.

I holidayed in Ireland this year and came to the conclusion that the only things to do in Irish cities is either to drink or to get out of them. The highlight of my holiday was an excursion from Belfast to Giant's Causeway along the Antrim Coast. I doubt very much if you'd be disappointed.

In Belfast there isn't much really. There's the Murals in the Falls Road, the botanical gardens were excellent in July. If you like walking, Cave Hill is good and easy to get to.

So I'd recommend an excursion to Giant's Causeway. When leaving the bus don't take the direct approach but see "The Organ". In the evening drink: there are some historic pubs that are well signed.
