Any dodgy areas in Belfast, best to be avoided, night or day?

british white citizen, with Brummie accent just visiting, not wanting a hard time.

i have always even from the early seventies found the people of Belfast to be open friendly and generous of spirit. treat them well and with respect they will respond three fold. i am white and English but obviously don't talk politics religion or Irish history enjoy the place and the people.

just go to digbeth its the same and cheaper

Watch yourself in any UK city in the Clubland areas around club closing time. There are groups of young headcases who can't handle their drink just like everywhere else, and want to show off in front of girls. The Pubs should be ok though.

Certain bits of Dublin and Liverpool are a bit too junky for comfort, but I don't know about Belfast.

A colleague is a shaven headed Brummie fanatical England Rugby supporter. He always spends Christmas etc. with his wife's folks in the Republican heartland of the bogside area of Derry. Unless you are dull enough to start voicing opinions which no-one would wish to hear, you are unlikely to get much aggro.

Belfast is usually fine at night, I'm go out in Belfast at least once a month and although I do see the odd fight now and again, its nothing major.
Make sure you have your taxi booked to pick you up because we don't really flag taxis down here, and most of the taxis you see will be prebooked - a reputable one is Valuecabs 02890 809080 (hope I'm not violationg anything by posting that number)

As someone else said, if you get chatting to anyone, just completely avoid the subject of religion and politics, that way you won't need to worry about offending anyone - and I hope you have a great time =]

yeah there's a few places you should avoid, namely a small town near there called BELFAST!!
