Is Belfast ghetto?

Since 1994 how has Belfast been? Is there still a lot of struggle there? Whats the major difference between Dublin and Belfast? Which city would you reccomend for travelers?

No! Belfast is not 'ghetto.' There have been sectarian related problems - that's it. I think things in Belfast have been hugely misinterpreted by people. Don't worry about Belfast, you'll have no problems. Since 1994? That's 14 years. Belfast has DEFINITELY changed. Just like every city there's some places you'd be better avoiding. Honestly, don't listen to people who tell you otherwise, they obviously don't live here and have just taken in the bad bits and that seems to be Belfast all over in their minds.

Major difference between Dublin and Belfast is that Dublin doesn't have the silly conflict that we have up North (they couldn't really care) and that Dublin is bigger and better than Belfast (depends on how you see it. Belfast is small, sweet and has everything you need and Dublin is just that few steps ahead.)

Can you not go to both? You can get from Belfast Dublin in about 2 hours 30mins. Although if you can only get to one I'd have to say, go to Dublin. It's got more culture, shops and more touristy things to do.

I hope you have a lovely time if you come to either Belfast or Dublin!

stable and open for tourism! I would go to both!

Belfast is certainly NOT ghetto were on earth did you get this idea from. Enough of the ranting, Belfast was voted one of the most popular cities to visit bar Edinburgh, I don't know about Dublin but as eveyone says try both there is only a 2hr distance away from them.

Both Dublin and Belfast are lovely Cities both steeped in Culture with many interesting places to visit. Personally I prefer shopping in Dublin, Brown Thomas is a must to browse around.

Is it "ghetto"??......This is an insulting question.

1994??....um.....the Troubles lasted longer than that.

And there IS some struggle there now . I imagine inner struggle of the people who were effected by the Troubles. I have a biased opinion about that but I wont comment.

I know some people from Belfast. Good people. I prefer "northern" Irish people. Dubliners are cool too but I just get along with people from the north better. I dont know why. Guess I dont know a lot of people from Dublin.

But no- Belfast is not "ghetto". Im sure there are certain areas that still show the signs of the war(s) but personally Id love to go to Belfast. Derry too. FUN people in Derry as well.
