Name of the road that went through Russian occupied Germany to Berlin from West Germany? Was it Weitsendorf? Sunshine gave you the historical answer. In more recent times, if you're referring to an actual road, it would have been (and still is) either A2 (Autobahn 2, a major highway), or B1 (Bundesstrasse 1, a country road). Both run more or less parallel. it is called the east west axis and it was originally used by bonaparte to invade russia, and later by the german armies to do the same,,, There were several roads used for transit traffic from West-Germany to West-Berlin but none of them had a name besides its number. Most important were the Autobahn from Berlin to Lower Saxony (Customs at Marienborn / Helmstedt) and to Bavaria (Customs at Hirschberg / Rudolphstein). Sorry, but the link is only available in german. The road you want is the A2 (German designation) or E30 (European designation). The road crossed into the former DDR at Helmstedt at Checkpoint Alpha, located to the west of Magdeburg and entered the US sector of Berlin at Dreilinden (Checkpoint Bravo) in the south west of the city. There is a book - you may like to look at www.jbb7994.com as a taster. |
