Places to visit in Berlin?

Places to visit in Berlin?

Oh my god you lucky thing! 2 years ago I spent New Years in Berlin and LOVED iT! Ok you probably wont be staying in hostels but if you do the best one by far is The Generator....new, modern and just such a cool atmosphere and bar on the premises.
Now this is a MUST!: We found this company, with AMerican tourguides who do FREE tours...you just tip them afterwards whatever you think they were worth! FANTASTIC! These people have lived in Berlin for years and have studied the history etc. I had no interest in the Haulocast...Hitler...Berlin Wall etc as I thought it sounded boring but TRUST me when I say these guys make it so exciting and REALLY pull you into what they're saying! I cant even explain how fabulous these tours were....seriously...funny, interesting and they also run a pub crawl etc on various nights and show you the night life. Awesome bunch of beople!
The tours I would reccommend are The Fall of the Berlin Wall Tour and the one to the concentration camp: Sachsenhausen. Incredible. Sachsenhausen is very airy and quite a moving place to visit and the guides can give you so much detail you almost feel you are there, back in the day...Here's the website:

Please do make sure you get on a tour with Chris, you'll see him when you click on guides on the site....he's amazing!
Be sure to write me if you do a tour with them....I so want to hear how much you enjoyed it!!!! :o)

The Red Rooster Bar, The Globetrotters Hostel, all the bars around Kreuzberg and wherever the nearest English exile band happens to be playing!

If you're a more serious visitor check out Brandenburg Gate, Berlin Cathedral, Dorotheenstadt Cemetery, Alexanderplatz, Bode Museum, East-Side-Gallery, Gendarmenmarkt and Federal Chancellery.

Enjoy...

There's so much to do in Berlin. You could visit:

Checkpoint Charlie
The House of a Thousand Windows
Brandenburg Gate
Funkturm
Olympic Stadium
Sachsenhousen....there's so much more too

if you get a chance, pop over to Poland and and visit Auschwitz. Really interesting.

Hope you have a good time! x

The ku'dam, there are several spots where you can still see portions of the Wall, um....I'm thinking..., there are some great restaurants, .....that is all I can think of right now.

Depending on your tastes, there are several routes you can take...I've been to Berlin and saw pretty much everything there was to see, if not in detail then at least an overview. I recommend going to the Sony Center near Potzdammerplatz at night as the big glass roof is lit up and the fountain in the middle is gargantuan and beautiful...not to mention the Sony Center has lots of nice restaurants and cocktail bars and is always full of people. The KaDeWe (Kaufhaus des Westins [Shopping Center of the West]) is, I believe, 6 stories of shops upon shops upons shops, and the 6th floor is all food - with over 1,200 types of cheese...here, you can have wine and cheese tastings, perfect to try that famous wine of the Rhein. Of course, it's almost mandatory to make a trip to the Brandenburg Gate (Brandenburger Tor) and also to the Rechstag building. Almost juxtaposed to the Reichstag is Angela Merkel's offices (the Chancellor), and the complex is so modern that you will want a few photos. Next to this complex is the Berliner Hauptbahnhof (Berlin Central Train Station), which was newly-completed this year, and I've been told that the inside is incredibly...if the outside is any indication of what the inside holds, then I'm sure this is true...it's one of my favorite pieces of architecture. You might want to take a bus tour around the city too, just to say that you've SEEN everything, and then pick which places you'd like to explore. The bus tour that I went on was extremely comprehensive and took us by many of the international embassy buildings, which was interesting just to see all the architecture and colors of the other countries coalesce in one place. Der Berliner Dom (The Cathedral of Berlin) is an amazing piece of old architecture and I wish I would have seen the inside, but I didn't. The TV tower is good to see, just to see it, or even to eat in the rotating restaurant in the top. Be sure to go to the Hard Rock Cafe' in Berlin and get some of your friends some sweet t-shirts!
