Any experienced american travelers to berlin & frankfurt, tips on airfare and lodging please?

possibly traveling may 15-28th
thanks!

In Berlin pretty much everywhere is clean and safe so you don't really have to worry about being in a 'bad' area of town. The only slightly rowdy place you might avoid is the area directly across from zoologischergarten train station. Sometimes the homeless hang out there. That being said even there still isn't dangerous.
For airfare try germanwings, airberlin, lufthansa, easyjet, or if you are just going from Berlin to Frankfurt try the trains. You can get info for ticket prices from www.bahn.de it is a lot cheaper if you buy your ticket from this website or in Germany than any other website or company in the U.S.
For hotels, just look on a website like hotels.com and when you find one you like check the reviews for it on tripadvisor.
Everything is so clean and safe here I don't think you could make a really bad choice anyways.

If you mean traveling in the continent, I recomend you this airlines :

The accor group has very cheap and clean /nice hotels, the product Etap ist the cheapest (you only pay what you use):
