Has anyone ever seen or attended the Free University in Berlin?

-Is it a nice campus?
-Is it easy to get to and from places?
-Any good places to hangout and party?
-What are the people like around there?

I've been there, yes. It is a nice campus, but it's a bit way out from center town. Please don't imagine a German university campus being something like an American campus. It's totally different. The campus is no "closed compound"; there are just buildings bordering a regular street, and you can reach free university easily by public transport, it's the U-Bahn (subway) to "Dahlem". To hangout and party, take the U-Bahn to center town, and do what you like. When you're new to Berlin, it's probably best to buy one of the city magazines, or just pick up some of the free flyers that are handed out in every pub, or are on public display at the university. I'm sure you won't miss a good party. As a matter of fact, you won't even be able to go to all the parties in Berlin and study at the same time.

The people? Well, they're Berliners, all around town. At university, you will have no problem speaking English only, but in town, a little bit of German can be useful. Be aware that Berliners speak Berlin dialect, so get used to "dit" and "dette" instead of "dies" and "das", or "this" and "that".

Again, I'm not a German speaker, but I remember that Berliners often say nee instead of nichts. It sounds to me that Alwin E knows what he's talking about. And also, when you go to buy
a bockwurst at any of the concessions, the wurst may have some sort of a chemical taste. This is normal. You get used to it. And you have to ask and pay separate for a slice of bread.
Also you have to tell them if you want some mustard. Senf. But this is one of the most inexpensive ways to dine in all of Europe.
If you aren't a vegan, the bockwurst will serve you well. Even if
money is not a problem for you, these concessions come in handy. A type of shashlik (deep fried pork kebabs) is also very popular and palateble. Ever since Mad Cow Disease, Europeans have gravitated heavily away from beef to pork. But you shouldn't have any problem at all getting beef nowadays.
I wish and pray you will have the time of your life.
