When is the best time to visit Switzerland? And how expensive is it day-to-day?

We were planning to go in August, to the Lake Geneva/Interlaken areas. There are 2 adults and 1 child (age 9) travelling. I would like to know about other people's travelling experiences here, their recommendations and what there is to see and do etc. Thank You!

Switzerland is best. They have good public/tourist facilities since they understand that tourists plays major role in their economy.

Weather should be good during that time, but i was there in June 2005 and weather was awsome. I don't about your accommodation plans but i stayed in Geneva Youth Hostel and it was really clean, nicely organized and not much expensive. You will find phone booth on Geneva station and you will find their phone number in local phone book there.

You can visit Jet fountain and a garden on the lake. Don't forget the cable car ride on the mountain. you will get that info. at tourist center.

Interlaken is full of beauty and activities. You can hiking, sky diving, gliding and you don't want to forget to go to the Jungfrau Mountain - its called top of the Europe. There is nice place called Balmers lodge in interlaken but since you have kid I would not suggest that. Its a party place for American backpacker.

Swiss. hostels are comparatively cheaper than Italy or France also food is not that expensive either.

Near Geneva is Vevey on the other side of the lake. the Riveria lodge,owned by Francois and brif=dgette is cheap. about 17 dollars a night. Eat at the vertigo there or Charlies Pub. Charlie Chaplin is buried on the hillside next to Vevey.
Interlaken go to the funny Farm. Fun place many activiy=ties offered. Eat at the Anker restraunt on Marktgasse 57. say Hello to rene and jeanette the owners. Tell them greetings from the gringo from Vermont. they know me 25 years. best food in Interlaken and atmosphere.
