What is there to do and see in Basle Switzerland?

I'm going to Basle in October - what will the weather be like in October - and what is there to see/do there?

Basel's nice, but not the most beautiful city in the world. However, it specializes in art museums. If you can rent a car, I would recommend visiting other parts of Switzerland, the Black Forest in Germany (just across the border), and the Alsace region of France (just across the border).

The weather will probably be colder than you'd like it to be (but not necessarily), and it could rain fairly often.
