Is buenos aires safe for a weak looking american girl?>?

is buenos aires safe for a weak looking american girl?>

I'm Argentinian and I live in BA...
everything the others told you is true...BA is as safe (or not safe) as any other city in the world.
it is true also that, due to our crash in 2001, dollars cost $3.15 pesos for us, though if bad people notice you have dollars with you, you may be a target to be stolen...
anyway, my suggest would be:
-try to change dollars into pesos, and pay with pesos (shops would try to charge you more if you pay in dollars, and usually they will give you the change in pesos),
-try not to have digital cameras hanging from your neck (as every tourist usually do, and therefore it is more noticeable that you are tourist),
-if you take a taxi, make sure it is a "radio taxi", you may recognize one as they always have a sign on the top of the car that says the name of the company, and on the doors it also have the name and phone...don't take a taxi without the sign, as they dont belong to any company, so you may never know (even for us) if it is a real taxi driver, or some one who has a car looking like a taxi and uses it to steal or kidnap people...to take a taxi it is even better if you phone any of these "radio taxis" and say in which corner you are waiting, and the operator will tell you even the plate number of the car that will pick you up
i hope you like my city!!! if you want, this is my e-mail address eidan_y@yahoo.com.ar ... you can ask me more questions and even if you want can take you some places when you come

no place is safe if you make stupid decisions and let yourself be taken advantage of...just keep your cool and be on guard and you should be fine

Yes it麓s safe if you act as you would in any big city: avoid dark lonely streets, don麓t go out wearing expensive jewelry, watch etc, and be reasonably alert. You麓ll find people are usually very nice and helpful and most speak english too, so in case of doubt you can always approach someone and ask for help.

Yes! But don't look weak! You may end up married!

Yeah I guess so

not at night...or on the bus. i went to BA this summer by myself...every block i turned i got a whistle or some guy asking to me to go in his van with him. just be careful adn never travel alone

Also, remember that there are a lot of kidnappings there because the economy crash in 2001. men will try to take any american vulnerable looking person because they think that if your american, then your rich. and send a threat saying give me x amount of money and il lgive you your american.

when i was there, the police were after 3 guys that did that, and then we drove by and saw police handcuffing 3 men on the side of the road.

Remember, what BA girl said is true. It is part of the culture, women, specially pretty ones, are constantly "piropeadas" and guys will whistle at them, I do it myself as a compliment, just ignore them, and enjoy your time there.

Nothing is safe. But in Buenos Aires, if you are an American, and look like one, they will respect you. They seemed to respect Americans a lot. Or at least they respected money. Maybe they resent us a little bit, but that's silly. They are good people, just be cool to them and you will love them.

ALWAYS EXCERCISE CAUTION.. anywhere in the world you go..

you'll be OK...

yes totally just be smart as you should anywhere and you will have a great time not even close to a scary place. GO
