What is the ocean water in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico like?

(On Medano Beach) Is it warm? How clear is it? How far can you see down? What color is it? Is it really salty? How is the sand? Is the bottom of the water have lots of coral?

Hola. Since we are on the Pacific ocean, our beaches are a little different from the Caribbean beaches.

We have a beautiful blue water with it turning turquoise as it gets closer to shore. The water is warm for most of the year but slightly colder than the bathtub warm Caribbean.

Medano is a nice flat beach for most of the year, it is next to the marina so it tends to be a little more polluted than our snorkeling beaches of Chileno and Santa Maria about 20 minutes away. It is still nice yellow sand but not that powdery white sand in Cancun. You can see the bottom most days, there is not much coral near Medano, but some fish still venture in, especially if you have crackers or bread. The Pacific is extremely salty and you float really good. Medano beach is our main popular beach, and a few of the other beaches in the area are a little more rough, there is a bit of an undertow, and the odd rouge wave.

like ocean water ne where else o course

It is a lot like the Bahamas Warm Clear and maybe 20 feet it is like a dark sky blue. Yes it is salty the sand is like San Diegos but more color to it. Didn't see the coral.

Medano beach is the best beach in Cabo San Lucas because the water is the calmest there. All other parts of Cabo have really rough water. The sand is also the smoothest at Medano Beach and other parts of Cabo have course sand. If you are going to be on Medano make sure to eat at the Post Office, the food there is amazing and they have great drinks. Also be sure to visit Billigans Island which is right next door to the post office they have great drinks, specials all day and guacamole to die for. They also have really fun drinking games all day long. Have a great time in Cabo!!!

Not too much coral - go Carribbean for that. The water quality depends on the weather as so much sediment runs off the land into the water and mucks it up. It is warm and nice, but not crystal clear.

Very, very nice...it can be rough in certain areas tho....

I was there a few years ago in Feb. The water wasn't as warm as I had hoped but it was beautiful. Be careful though if you go swimming. The water can be rough and the currents are terrible since it is near the tip of the Baja. You may get the opportunity to whale watch, we saw a lot. The deep sea fishing was great and the resort we stayed in did a terrific job preparing it. Check this out with your hotel if you do plan of fishing, some no longer cook you fish and you don't want to have to throw it away. It is my favorite are in Mexico, have a great time!!

I was there last month and it was a little chilly. Very beautiful and clean though!
