Calgary Job Outlook?

Hello

Can someone give an latest update ( 2008) on Calgary job outlook.
Also are there still help wanted ads everywhere ( I heard Tim Hortons Paying 13-14 /hr). I am looking for a professional job in Purchasing, Marketing etc. I am asking about Tim Hortons Jobs as to one can work on something if one doesnt get good jobs initially..I also heard there is a lot of shortage of Taxi drivers in Calgary and that they make like $4,000 -5,000 a month. Any input will be much appreciated as I am seriously considering moving from Ontario.

If you have a good work ethic, decent communication skills, are reasonably mature and don't have to live in a half-way house, you shouldn't have any trouble whatsoever landing a job within a week or two. I'd stay away from taxis though cause the traffic is murder and you really need to know the city if you want to get anywhere in a hurry.

You're better off moving to HELL than to that dump. Rude people, lousy drivers, and not an iota of culture (unless of course you count the ones in the lab). Stay away if you know what's good for you.

I am a purchaser in Calgary and decent work is hit and miss. Some of us do very well, others earn 50% for the same job. It seems hit and miss.

It is a great city in many ways, but if I had stable employment in Ontario I'd be careful. We have tonnes of 15-20/hr jobs, but stable careers are hit and miss. If you have a good network in Calgary you'll be fine. Also, people need to remember it is expensive to live here.

If you are family oriented, willing to take a risk and put up with instability, and ready to work hard you will likely be ok here. Good Luck!
