Do most oil rig companies in alberta put you in a hotel if there's no need for a camp?

My friend worked for a service rig company and he was put in a hotel for the whole time he was working. Do most companies do this or do you have to find a place to live yourself? i'd be moving from vancouver island to work and have no money to get a place until i start working.

Depends on the company and where you are working out of, usually when you are at the job accomadation is provided but if you are working for a service company based out of a city or town and only working locally, they may not.

Some service rig companies do put you up but not all. I know that on drilling rigs they do not. In the winter if they are in a secluded area they provide a camp but that doesn't last for long. It's difficult getting a job on the rigs because most people are in your position when they start and need to put out a lot of money for a place to stay until they get paid.
If you can talk to your driller and tell him your situation, they sometimes offer help or can tell you where to stay that's cheaper.
If you already have a job, ask the company what the protocol is.
