Can anyone recomend a good chav free heavy metal/indie/rock club or bar in Cardiff?

I'm new to the area and I really need to get out and make some friends, so where do all the live music fans go?

Don't mind if its full of teenagers since I'm only 19 myself, aslong as its a chav free zone!

I live in Cathays.. here are the places I know of

Cardiff Uni students union (Park Place by County Hall), Solus I think they got a rock night on Wednesday or Monday, but u must be a student in Cardiff Uni, otherwise you will have to be signed in by someone who is a student at cardiff uni

Barfly is by Cardiff Castle and it's mostly Indie

Clwb Ifor Bach (which is called the Welsh Club) is amazing lool, they play all sorts

Metros which is just by Howells just off St Mary street, they got a special night on Saturday and either wednesday or thursday, but if you go there you will notice it stincks like hell that is why it is known as "sweatros"

I think they play rock and Heavy Metal in the University of Glamorgan Bar in Trefforest, but that is outside Cardiff (15-20 minutes on the train)

Buffalos is decent, but a bit pricy, there is a pub caled the Pen and Wig which is free and it's amazing, u might see me there... but u won't know it's me lool, oo wait u might have seen me already .. lol anyway the pen and wig is behind incognito which is on Park place just by Cardiff Uni

I don't think there are many others that play that kind of music

Have fun :D

Used to be a fab club called Metros. Haven't been there for years - bit too much of a mosh pit for me i'm afraid!

and all these are on a monday night

just get NME it has loads gigs and stuff

Try the Universities maybe? Cardiff, Glamorgan, and UWIC. Whatever you do stay away from St Mary's Street on Saturday night's it's Chav Heaven. They all come in from the valleys in little tops and no knickers and drink until they fall legs apart in the middle of the road. It's like Benidorm without the heat. Stick to weekday nights!

Try bogiez in the bay, a lot of my friends rave about it. Think it's held every fortnight.

Someone has already mentioned the barfly, the welsh club and Metros, all worth a look in.

You could also try Dempsey's, they often have decent live music and late bar. The City Arms is also a decent pub (gets a bad press but I've rarely seen any trouble in there).
