- The Atacama Desert, which is the driest non-Arctic place on Earth and is virtually sterile. It's located to the north. It is made up of salt basins (salares), sand and lava flows, and is 15 million years old and 100 times more arid than California's Death Valley. There is a town called Calama in the desert which is complete with motels, restaurants and shops, but it is definitely not the norm.
- The Patagonian mountains located to the south at Puerto Natales & Parque Nacional Torres del Paine, are best visited in summer (December through March) as the region can be all but impenetrable in winter (June through September).
- Chile's Lake District are 12 major lakes, with dozens more. Between the lakes there are rivers, waterfalls, forests, thermal hot springs, and the Andes, including six volcanos with Villarica being the highest. Here you have Temuco, Puerto Montt (where the islands and fjords of Patagonia begin)

- Easter island, also known as Rapa Nui or Isla de Pascua, is known as the Navel of the World, is part of Chile, but is located in the South Pacific Ocean (2237 mi or 3600 Km west of continental Chile). It is famous for its monumental stone statues called moai, between 6 and 33 feet high, carved out of the volcanic turf
