If you were to dig a hole straight down, where would you have to start to end in China?

If you were to dig a hole straight down, where would you have to start to end in China?

Fast and easy way, find a globe and look for China, then see the opposite side. Should be around South America.

Or you can follow cooltronix's way. Find a City's Longitude and Latitude. Say Shanghai, Longitude 121掳E, Latitude 31掳N.

The opposite side of Earth would be:

Longitude: Move 180掳 to the West, that would be (180-121)掳West = 59掳West.
(Yes, cooltronix calculated wrongly).

Latitude: Convert North to South => 31掳S.

From Google Earth it seems to be somewhere in the province of Entre Rios in Argentina. Very near Paran谩 (31掳44鈥?S 60掳32鈥?W), the capital city of the Argentine province of Entre R铆os.

Doesn't really work like that. Actually you could start anywhere.

Renaldo..... another weird queston of yours....
I think I'd start from my back yard.

no after a few miles you would die from the heat

you would have to start in New York ish i think. i'm not really an expert at this stuff.

You can't dig through earth's core, what an immature thought.

I'm going to assume that this person understands the improbability of such a project, so all you respondents need not worry about him dying of heat or as to why it could not be done with our current forms of technology. I believe this to be a hypothetical question, you ninies. The answer, I believe would be Australia.

You can start anywhere really if it doesn't specify that it has to go through the Earth core, but if it does go through Earth core, you'll have to go somewhere in the Southern Pacific ocean, I read it's an island, don't remember which one.

It's easy with google earth. Lets have a try, China is a little vast, so let's chose a city, let's say Shanghai.

In google earth Latitude is 31潞 North. Longitude is 121潞

Now we have to see what is opposite. That would be:

Latitude is 31潞 South. Longitude is a little more difficult, you have 180潞 in the full circle, so you need to deduct 90潞 from 121潞 , that will be 31潞

That will be a bit southeast of Durban, South Africa, just off the coast in the Indian Ocean.

If you chose Beijing you have to start 2000Km south of Cape Horn, again in the water.
