What's it like in Cleveland?

How's the job market, crime, unemployment, schools??
Why is real estate so cheap?

The job market depends a lot on what you do for a living. Some foelds such as in the medical seem to be in demand everywhere. Truck drivers are in demand at times as well. Cleveland is a big city. Like all the rest there are high crime areas. A lot of people work in Cleveland but live in other cities away from Cleveland. I live east of Cleveland and the schools are better here. I would never consider sending my kids to any Cleveland school. Howland is an excellent school district but is about a 40 minute drive. Homes here are cheap because they never increased like those in other areas such as Florida and California. You can buy a really nice 3 or 4 bedroom home in our area for well under $100,000.00. I moved here from Florida and I am happy here.

crime is bad job market is decent schools are crazy Its a Ohio city it is cheap because its cold soo very cold and snowy

the city's population is 52% black. so that's not encouraging.

only 20% of public school students graduate on time, if at all.
That's not encouraging either.

the job market is where you live. teaching jobs are not good anywhere except a lot of people will retire at once so tht will be a problem. the crime market is where you are in cleveland. no one is going to steal something in broad daylight and if they do they are fools. the schools are ok. in the suburbs they are nice but in the city there are a lot of gangs. also u say real estate is so cheap? cleveland maybe but i live in a suburb and i say i live in cleveland. some house where i live are for sale for above a million dollars so it depends how you look at it. what's it like in cleveland? well its like every other city. great but still has some problems!

Like others said the job market really depends on your profession. If you're in the medical field then you'd have no problem find employment. There is a lot of unemployment because business' have left the city, some people who worked for Tops are still out of work and we're always wondering when Ford is gonna close another plant. Crime is higher in places that is already exists. The schools are hopefully turning around, we have a new superintendent and maybe he will make some positive changes. Real estate is so cheap because of the market. They foreclosers are high all over Cuyahoga County. If you're planning on relocating I suggest moving to a suburb.

On crime: The largest concentration of crime is in East Cleveland & some spots w/in the Cleveland city limits. But a re-locator would probably move to the suburbs anyway. Cleveland is spectacular, btw. I moved away 4 years ago and can't wait to move back.

The pinnacle of awesomeness, Cleveland is.

Often cited as a model for urban rebirth and named one of the top 10 international visitor hotspots by Travel and Leisure magazine, the city of Cleveland, located on the shores of Lake Erie, has truly lived up to its image as The New American City. Cleveland's success story today is fueled by an on-going commitment to growth and a global vision for the future. Cleveland boasts leading cultural and educational centers, internationally acclaimed health institutions and world-class sports and entertainment facilities. These attributes, combined with the rich traditions and unique, ethnic flavor of the city, have visitors agreeing with what residents have always said---CLEVELAND--- IT WILL ROCK YOU!

Culture enthusiasts and aficionados enjoy stellar performances at Cleveland's Playhouse Square Center, which includes five beautifully restored, circa 1920 theaters, making Playhouse Square Center the nation's largest performing arts center outside of New York City. These architectural gems are home to the Cleveland Opera, Ohio Ballet, Great Lakes Theater Festival, The Second City, and many Broadway performances.

One word about the schools. All those that answered previously are correct. The schools are the worst. HOWEVER...that's just the CLEVELAND CITY schools. There are many excellent schools districts in the suburbs. Same with crime. Typical city crime...not as bad as some and worse then others. Again, that's in Cleveland proper. The suburbs (many of them) are very peacful and crime free.

Ok I'm sorry but Cleveland is scary. We had to go there many times and it is not a good area. Some but very little of the parts of Cleveland are nice. You have to keep your car doors locked at all times when u r driving and drive fast and try not to hit a red light. There is graffiti in many places also. Some parts of Cleveland are full of condemned homes and there are many crimes. The people of Cleveland are great. I know I said Cleveland is not a good area but 75% of the people are nice. Job market is good but the schools arent as I hear. Real estate is so cheap probably becuase many of the homes are foreclosed or in terrible parts of the city. Dont worry though. Cleveland is ok if u move to the right place.
