We travel to Madrid next month. Tell me please is Vallecas district safe place for foreign tourists?

We were recommended to live there in apartment hotel Oasis Madrid Albufera (Crta Villaverde A Vallecas, 295) which is placed 900 meters from subway station called Sierra de Guadalupe. Is it safe to go there from hotel to subway by foot?

Madrid, including Vallecas, is as safe as Europe's other cities. Madrid's locals (including Gypsies and other immigrants) dine and go to bed later than we do, so you'll have plenty of company on the street at all hours.

Vallecas is actually safer than most U.S. cities, with just a third the murder rates of Washington DC and New Orleans, just half those of Atlanta and Oakland, California.

That said, you may still find drug and alcohol abuse on the street. Vallecas has also had more theft and pickpockets than other neighbourhoods. Just carry your purse strap and wallet safely.

The Vallecas people also wildly support their Rayo Vallecano football team. So you might want to find out when they're playing and avoid the subway then -- or pointedly go to watch the game!

Vallecas used to have a bad reputation but it has gotten much better.... it is as safe as most other barrios ... dont worry .. you will be fine.. de Madrid al cielo!!!!!!!

well depends...it is not the best district of the city! it had and still has a great reputaion...and although im sure you will be fine, there are loads of other hotels you could find equally cheap and nearer to the town centre you know....its really far away from castellana, the main alley in the city. i suggest you to look for another hotel.
