Pensiones in Madrid?

Are there any Pensiones ( Spanish state-run hotels), in or around Madrid?

Yes, there are.
You can look for them in the yellow pages:
www.paginasamarillas.es
Type: pension
provincia: madrid
ciudad: madrid

You will find more than 300 just in the city!!!

I always thought Pensiones were privately-run little boutique-like places. That's what I saw. Did you mean Paradors? They are state run. The thing to do would be to search Paradores, Spain.

These are all the paradores listed as being near Madrid.

It's right on the Plaza Mayor (less than two minute's walk) Right in the center of town. Five minutes to the Puerta del Sol and the subway.
