I am planning to go backpacking to Darwin next year June. What are the places we should not miss out?

We have budget. We are planning to stay there for a week. This would be our adventure trip and so we want to know the places to visit in Darwin.Since we are on tight budget, what are the options we have for accomodation.

I have to question the first 2 responses. It is sad that they had such bad experiences, however I strongly disagree with their comments.

June is the dryest of periods and the best time to visit Darwin and the Top End. The nights are cool and the days, although high in temperature, are relatively cool due the the dryer air. Everything is airconditioned so you can get around quite comfortably.

Darwin is a fast growing city with some major construction occuring right now. New accommodation is opening, roads and infrastructure is being upgraded (not that it was too bad before) and any service you could possibly want is available.

I live in Darwin and work in the tourism industry. I have worked in the tourism industry for over a decade and while there are some cowboys out there, they majority of operators are great ambassadors.

The comments regarding the tour guide could be true. I have known some pretty bad guides. But these people don't last and are usually employed by the lesser of the touring companies who are just trying to pump the tourist for cash. You will find this in every tourism destination the world over.

The Northern Territory is Australias number 1 adventure, nature and cultural destination. Come with an open mind and experience it for yourself.

For accommodation options, the best list is can be found at one of these sites www.travelnt.com, www.about-australia.com, www.tourism.net.au. There is everything from camping to resort style accommodation. Travelnt.com has some good options and suggest itineraries and maps.

If you are after adventure, you will probably want to look further afeild for accommodation options. How adventurous are you? Have you seen the "wicked" vehicle rentals? They look like great fun and I can't imagine they would be too expensive (www.wickedcampers.com.au).

Feel free to contact me for any further questions. Only too happy to give fair and reasonable advice on travelling to the Northern Territory.

Hi, I went to Darwin and to be honest if your travel plans allow you i wouldn't bother. Yes it has some amazing parks and some great views etc. But the time of year your going its hot sticky and full of Mozzies. There are a couple of tour companies that offer 3-5 day packages so you can see every thing but what ever you do DO NOT BOOKING WITH "ADVENTURE TOURS" - we had the worst trip in my entire life - the guide didnt know her elbow from a fren, a waterfall from a river and when it came to camping and eating arrangements - they didnt pack any food for us - so we eneded up every day having to find a supermarket to buy dinner(at our expense - though it was ment to be included). Darwin itself does not have too much to offer. And looking back i would have rather saved my money and spend longer on in The Cape or Perth.

if you would like to know more let me know

You have to go to the Adelaide River and see the jumping crocodiles. It's on my life's "TO DO" list.

Have a wonderful trip and take care!
