Is it foolish to go from Cairns to Ayers Rock with a small camper/van?

Hi there! I wonder if it's possible go from Cairns to Ayers Rock with a small van without 4 wheels and bull bars...
What do you think? Foolish? Easy?

Let me know!

Many thanks

If you wish to do that , yes it can be done not everyone drives a 4 wheel drive but, have your car checked out by a proffessional explain where going , also it is 250 k's from fuel stop from Cammoweal so fill your car there , so that will make sure you have enough fuel to get to Barkley Homestead in the NT, also take tools with you just in case of a break down , and have spare's part, fan belt , radiator hoses, make sure the spare tyre is pumped up.and most important if you do break down do not panic, Take spare water with you, also take form of comunication with you, Sat phone, or Mobile phone, barring that see about a CB radio, because a lot of truckdrivers are mostly on the air and can help as well , if you breakdown
Plan your trip ,don't let anyone push you , its your trip and you wish to arrive safely ,

And one more thing take care when passing or not the Roadtrains they can be about four to six trailers long so I would not try to race them or try to pass one ,just let them go, because they have the most right of way in the NT,

But get you car checked first .that is the most important thing

it is fine just watch what roads you use if they say 4WD only go another way & dont do it in the rainy season
dont drive at dusk & dawn as that is when you will hit roo's the most

Just keep to the main roads.

It will be fine. I did just that 23 years ago and the roads were fine then.

no probs, just dont go on any dirt roads that might look like fun, get yaself in a world of hurt.

I have done a car trip from Cairns to Darwin with no problems, but make sure you take spare radiator hoses and water and spare petrol. Petrol is very expensive out west when we went travelling, as you will discover.
